The SPIRIT of WINNERS

As all of us count down to the BIG DAY, it's super important for us to have the WINNER MENTALITY, yeah?
Research shows that winners think about the race/competition.

During the remaining (aka precious) rehearsals we are left with, please MAINTAIN the WINNER MENTALITY:
  1. Do not "self-distract" by talking about other things.
  2. Mull over the learning points the coaches have mentioned.
  3. Internalise the teaching. (Woww...machiam like learning a new gungfu style!)
  4. Recall and hold on to the FIGHTING SPIRIT demonstrated during the last rehearsal with Ms Khor.
  5. Lastly, BELIEVE in yourself!

WE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT!!!

RISE ABOVE ALL!
Lotsa faith in you!!

Dear Choir,

Though we don't know how we would fare during SYF, the teachers are VERY PROUD of your achievement so far!!!

Keep it up and believe we will go far...and rise above all!

To all my darlings of YI Choir

Dear YI Choir members,

it has brought to my concerns that some of you feel that it is rather unfair to kick some members out of SYF after all the months of practice.

The teachers i/c will address this matter during the next SYF Practice.

PS:
Chatters, please speak with grace and respect on the tagboard. :) Always treat one another with love and respect.

Choir members, I am really proud of you! :)
The words you left on the tagboard have indeed shown maturity and sensibility. Thank you for displaying the TRUE YUSOFFIAN SPIRIT, which is to shower others with respect, encouragement, care and concerns! :) I am really very proud of you! :)

Thank you for upholding the Yusoffian Values -
Resilience,
Respect,
Responsibility,
Compassion,
Confidence and
Integrity!!
Thank you!!! You all are truly an amazing lot!!! :D
Always in your service with love,
~ ms ang

Updates on the Sec 1 SYF-Audition

The Sec 1 SYF Audition turned out well - filled with anxiety, fears, fun and laughter! :D

Mr Pang and I were very encouraged by the spirit shown by the Sec 1s. They were very eager to display their talents and most importantly, we can really tell that they WANT to be part of the SYF Team (knowing that the bulk would come from the Sec 2s and 3s).

It was a heart-warming moment when some of the Sec 1s, who thought they did badly for the audition, requested for a 2nd try to further prove their talents.

We are totally impressed and encouraged by the enthusiasm and the unrelenting learning attitude shown by the Sec 1s.

Keep it up, Sec 1s!! :)

Some TIPS for the rest who are going to have their audition soon:
  • Don't be afraid to sing out loud!
  • Know your parts well.

If you are the type who likes to sing softly to yourself and murmur your way thru the song, then you are most likely OUT of the team.

Good luck to all! :)

PS:
Being out of SYF does NOT mean you are out of choir.
You will still be involved in the NDP and year-end Drama Night (which will help you earn more CCA points too!).

Always in your service with love,
~ Ms Ang

SYF Audition

Dear Choir,

as you know, the group size for our SYF team is limited to 80 participants. As such, Ms Khor and Mr Pang will be conducting a series of auditions for all.

The results will be posted up here upon completion of all auditions.

Audition Schedule
24 Mar : Sec 1 (during PAP)
25 Mar : Sec 3 (yes, a less formal audition required as we have a handful of newcomers)
26 Mar : Sec 2 (during PAP)

Reminders
  1. CCA point for SYF participant = max 3 points
  2. CCA points for NDP participant = max 5 points
  3. CCA point for Drama Night = max 1 point

To get A1 for CCA, minimum points = 25

For the Choir members, as you can see, this year is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for you to earn a lot of CCA points. (Other CCAs may need at least 2-3 years to earn the points u get in tis year!!)

Please grab this chance and do your best, esp for SYF! :)

Hi pple.

As you can see, the YI Choir blog has changed its layout.

Considering the feedback the admins got, here are the main changes:
  1. Layout - may change again.
  2. Archives - you can now read the older entries easily.
  3. Videos - yes, you can view your own silliness on media.
  4. Comments - for you to drop constructive comments.
  5. Labels - for easier search of your reading interests.

The blog is still revamping...Meanwhile, WATCH TIS SPACE...! :)

Counting Down to SYF...

Hey SYF Team,

just want to let you know that the Choir teachers believe that all of you are a great bunch of people!!

No matter how disappointing the practice at Gan Eng Seng this morning may seem, there's still time to keep improving and working together until you all become a truly united bunch.

I sincerely believe that when that day comes, the reward and award will not be just the SILVER award we are aiming for.

The reward will also encompass the precious friendship that you all have built as you all work hard together and press on as a team... This spirit of unity, spirit of working hard toward a common goal will continue to live on in the Choir. Trust me! Others will feel it and see it!! By then, we don't need a trophy to prove that spirit to them.

Not forgetting the memories of all the hard work and sweat (think of all the long SYF trainings, NDP dancing rehearsals...) would be sweeter as you look back...

For what you know, it's all worth it!

Ultimately, being able to work together as a team - the SYF TEAM - is the greater test than the competition itself.
And the teachers definitely believe this is one test you can pass WELL!

YI CHOIR - all the way!! :D :D :D

Special thanks to...

What an experience! Fancy cooking for the a big group of hungry kids in the Home Ec. Room! :p

Surely it may not have been a super day for some of us. Many of us might have expected a more exciting time with the games, or a more fun moment at Gan Eng Seng.

But hey, I think the REAL fun really comes from the camaraderie we have forged together as a team! :D

For me, the most unforgettable moment has to be in the kitchen... hehe!

Special thanks to:
My Kitchen Assistants and Chefs -

  • Beautiful and Capable Vivian, who seems to specialise in frying chicken cutlets...
  • Quiet and Steady Yoon Yi, who had all the hotdogs and garlic toasted nicely!
  • Cutest and Helpful Isman, who simply enjoyed serving the cooked food.
  • The Hungry Haziq, who was the speediest at peeling the crab meat!
  • One-handed Shin Chen, who really knows the way to frying meat...!
  • Diligent and Careful Junwen, who readily prepared all the materials we needed.
  • Ever-ready Huifen, who is every chef's best helper!

My 'Night-Duty Gals', who really put all the boys (esp the leaders!) to shame... -

  • Kaiyi, who was concerned with the cleanliness (or rather, the mess we left...)
  • Xena, who surprises me with her eagerness to help out with the mess :)
  • Meiyun, who just helped out quietly, without grumbles.
  • Amanda, who cleared the rubbish and complained about the guys! hahah :P
  • Huiyan, who dutifully helped out without complaints.
  • Chin Xuan, who is only Sec 1, yet displayed so much sense of responsibility.

The FEW GOOD GUYS who stayed back late to clear the mess... -

  • Brian, who offered his service with much eagerness.
  • Wei Ming (another one who surprises me with his help) who seemed to enjoy clearing the BBQ pit...hahah! :)

The gals from China who offered their help in one way or another when the BBQ fire seemed to fail us...

Lastly, not forgetting the Game Masters, who had spent so much time in preparing the wonderful games for all of us!! :)
They are namely,

  • Shahir, whose calmness is admirable.
  • Vivian, who is ever so helpful.
  • Mac, who has the ability to command and give clear instructions.
  • Simpson, who is always very ready for service.
  • Jeremy, who is a good assistant to every leader.
  • Amanda, who enjoys interacting with the others.
  • Meiting, who does not mind playing the 2nd fiddle and able to handle situations with love and patience.
  • Zong Hua, who tries his best in the tasks given.
  • Kaiyi, who is learning the rope from the other leaders.
  • Huifen, who prefers to lead the rest the quiet way.
  • Yue Xi, who never fails to give sensible suggestions.
  • And many others who have contributed in one way or another...!!!

You guys rox!!! :)

PS:
I must say that I am kinda disappointed with the male leaders...for not offering the service at the end of the BBQ... We really (I mean really really) appreciate it if the guys are able to stay back to help out with the mess.

Leadership is not just about managing the rest.

It's also about taking the initiative to do the 'dirty job'.
Leadership has to begin with the heart that yearns to serve...

Always in your service with love,
Ms Ang

18 Mar - Cluster A NDP Rehearsal @ Kranji Camp

To ALL NDP-LEADERS,

well done, people!! Your efforts had not gone to waste..! :D

We did well just now at Kranji Camp. I am sure you have witnessed your own harvest in leading the YI-NDP team. The process is tiring and long-drawn, but surely, the fruit of success is SWEET! :)

To me (and the other two teachers), the more important and rewarding thing is to see you people grow both individually and as a team. :)

It's such a marvellous feeling to watch you people growing stronger and better in leadership! You guys are going to do great things in the future!!

Keep believing in yourself and keep up the GOOD WORK! :)

*somehow, your attitude is just so infectious! I can seeing more people wanting to join your league... :)*

By Ms Ang

The Altos sure did it! :)

During the syf rehearsal on Tuesday, the alto leaders took the initiative to ask the altos to turn up earlier today to finish up the NDP dance steps as they were unable to finish the dance last saturday.

Btw, tomorrow will be our first combined NDP rehearsal with the other schools…

I went to take a look at them after my 5n1 Math remedial. It was very heart-warming to see the three leaders (namely, Meiting, Amanda and Kaiyi) teaching and leading the rest in the dance. *awwww*

I must say that the 3 gals are more confident and sure of what they want to do now. Very pleased with their improvement in taking charge of their tasks. :) The dancers were listening to them and the best part is every one is enjoying the practice!

Can really see the improvement in their leadership. The gals are beginning to take more ownership in their roles, showing more sense of responsibilities and yet humble enough to want to learn from the other leaders.

To the three lovely leaders (you know who u are!!),
GOOD JOB! :) Thank you so much for helping out! Really appreciate that!! :)
Thanks for setting the example to the rest!

To the Alto-dancers who turned up early today,
THANK YOU!!
You have shown much improvement and team spirit just now! Keep it up! Thank you for being so cooperative and wonderful dancers! :)

Do come for dance practice on this Wednesday, 10am to 2pm.
