The 3 Deadly Ds of Destruction!!!

As the MYE looms nearer, it's not surprising that many of us are feeling anxious and unsettled.

It does not matter if you are trying to survive through the last-min preparation, or steadily doing your revision, it does help to know the deadliest morale-killers to avoid round this
period of time! And coincidentally, they all start with the letter D!!!

Presenting to you the THREE DEADLY Ds:
  1. Distraction
  2. Discouragement
  3. Doubt

Morale-killer #1: Distraction
Notice how easy it is to be distracted by the surrounding temptations? Esp. during the exam period? ahahaha!

Well, dear ones, you sure know what these temptations are... - PC games, Facebook, MSN, television programs, even sleeping for prolonged hours!! - just to name a few, these are some distractions that draw our attention away from the more important and urgent matters.

Dear ones, are you mindful of these distractions around you?

Morale-killer #2: Discouragement
Are you feeling discouraged after several attempts to solve some Math algebra? Or are you feeling vexed and disheartened when you realise that your buddies are doing well in their preparation when you are not?

The truth is, when we are distracted (distracted by how others are progressing, by the little setbacks we face...), discouragement is just around the corner!!! Ready to pounce on us like a hungry predator!

Dear ones, don't be an easy prey to discouragement. Always believe you can do it!
Have patience - keep trying and never say give up!

Morale-killer #3: Doubt
The last thing you should do during this critical period of time is to DOUBT your own capabilities!!! NOOOO!!
Trust that you will reap what you sow and with patience, diligence and perseverance, all things are possible! :)

'nuff said.

Wishing you all the best for the coming MYE!!!
And remember, stay away from the 3 Ds!

Love,
~ ms ang

Critics on SYF performances..?! gulpz!

Dear all,

hope all of you are mugging hard for the coming MYE.

Do get sufficient rest and sleep as well. Remember to keep the same fighting spirit and discipline demonstrated during the SYF period. The same spirit will sustain you through the coming MYE and of course, helps you to perform during the examination period. :)

Anyway, in case you are bored of mugging the notes and need a tad break, do check out the critics posted on "Sing 4 Harmony" webpage. (The link has been attached on our blog). The writer had commented on several school choirs' SYF performance - ranging from their costume to their singing..!

Well, I find the read an interesting one. And am glad that our choir has been spared from the critics! haha! :P

Just a gentle reminder:
  1. Whatever mentioned on the website is just the writer's own opinion. It does not represent the judges' point of view.
  2. Let's practise the freedom of speech with grace and respect.

what a moment!!!

GOSH! It has been a mind-blowing experience, hasn't it? :)

Mr Wong had penned down the emotions well... indeed, it had been an emotion-filled day for all of us! :) I believe many of us would love to relive the moment again, don't we? hahah!

We LOVE you people...!

Not because you have won a silver, but because YOU HAVE CONQUERED YOURSELF! Very very proud of you all!! :)

In a sentimental mood,
~ ms ang

An unspoken bond that binds us together,
and unforgettable experience that will be etched on our minds forever...
What a journey we have trudged together...
Shoulders to shoulders.
we learn to love and accept one another.
A common vision and goal we share,
Common anxieties and joy together we bear!
A great team spirit we have
when every little thing you do was for every one...
A lovely camaraderie forged,
many sacrifices made,
all for bearing the name - YI CHOIR!
To know that we have conquered ourselves
to be part of something great!
We have indeed come a long way...
to form this SYF Experience that
in words, can't be best said...

*sowwie, ms ang is really not a lit student...cant write stuff with poetic sense...hahah!*

Silver award for SYF 2009

To my little darlings in the YI Choir,

Today was a very emotional roller coaster ride for me. After a whole year of sweat, blood and tears, today was the judgement day. My one year old choir is going to perform in Victoria Concert Hall in the SYF competition 2009.

After a good rendition of the white horse and nonya nonya, I thought we have secured our silver award. But little did I know that my choir tripped and fell in mairi's wedding, the third and the easiest song out of the three pieces.

During the intermission, I could see the disappointment on many of your faces. I was heart broken not so much because we did not win, but I wanted so badly for my sec 3 to have s silver award for themselves as this is their last SYF.

When Zonghua asked me innocently, " Mr Wong, so we are not going to get silver?"

I was heart broken as I do not know how to answer him.

I lied.

I told him that miss ang and I will wait for the results. Well, you never know? That was my reply. Deep in my heart, I knew that this slip will cost us our silver.

(Scene 1: The Results)
The wait for the results was excruciating. It was a long wait and I was secretly praying for a miracle to happen. Maybe, the judges will be more lenient with us? Maybe our songs were different from other schools and thus, provide an alternative experience for the judges? There were so many maybes coursing through my mind in that one hour wait.

The moment came.

School fifty two, Yusof Ishak Secondary School.........Silver!

I swore my heart stopped beating.

I looked at kwee Keng with a "Did you hear what I hear?" look.

(Scene 2: Entrance of Victoria Concert Hall)
There were two crazy teachers dashing out screaming like mad people. Kwee Keng and I were busy shouting and texting everyone the good news.

I called Miss Khor, my instructor to tell her the good news.

She SCREAMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the first time I heard her scream in joy. Well, I have heard her screamed at my students when they were not focused many a times but this was such an exhilarating scream.

Choir listen up, Miss Khor said, " Alan, tell the choir that I love them so much, I will join them for a celebration definitely!"

YI Choir, your silver is gold with first class honours to me. So many schools got the silver award, but how many of them got it after one year? This is something we all should be proud of. Suddenly, all the hard work, running and chasing students seems worthwhile. We competed with 128 other schools and got the Silver award in one year.

I am so proud of you people. Can really cry, but you know Mr Wong will never shed tears in front of students. So I have to find a secret corner and cry. Tears of joy obviously. I thank of all you for this wonderful experience in rewritng the history of Yusof Ishak Secondary School.

Best,

Alan Wong
YI Choir Teacher

To my beloved Sec 3s

It's always been the YI CHOIR teachers' wish that the SYF Award is your best gift in your stay with us... :)

We understand that many of you were being 'forced' to join Choir at the beginning... Hopefully, this SYF experience has enriched your school days with immense joy and invaluable friendship.

Thank you, dears!

Thank you for being with us - persevering during the tough times, blessing the juniors with your talents and time and being so cooperative all these while.

Lastly, thank you for being part of the history-making moment! It would not been so without you... :)

Lotsa love,
ms ang

Sharing the History-Making Moment! - YOU ARE THE BEST!

hahahahha! :)Do I need to say more? :D
We are so proud of you...ALL OF YOU!!
YESH!!! Pple, listen up! IT'S A SILVER!!!

Some of you may say it's not a big deal, cos there are many schools getting silver. BUT hey, get the facts right! WE HAVE ALL THE REASONS TO BE PROUD OF OUR ACHIEVEMENT!

A choir who is only 1 year old...one that started from scratch in 2008...I really think it's a remarkable achievement! WELL DONE!!!

It's has been an emotional day, isn't it? We set off feeling confident, then screwed up the 3rd piece and left the place battled and discouraged. And miracle does happen! :)

Indeed, our hardwork and efforts paid off. All the sacrifices we make for one another are worthwhile, yea? :)

Let's be thankful for this experience, be thankful for the wonderful friends we have made, and be thankful for the excellent coaches we have!
YI CHOIR, WE'VE MADE HISTORY!!!
WELL DONE~!!!
Always in your service and love,
ms ang :)

*can't wait to share with all of you the emotional moments mr wong and i experienced while waiting for the release of the results...!*

Keep it up and hope that the juniors will do the school proud for 2nd year syf!

Vivian, 3e2!

IT'S A SILVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Choir,

We did it !!
We get SILVER !!! SILVER !!!

We'd proved to the other sch choir that we can do it!!!

We had only used 1 yr time to get silver !!

I'm so so so proud of u guys!! I'm really glad over this!!

Now we really show other sch choirs and our school what we are really made of!! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!

MS ANG, MR WONG & MS LEE : thanks for all ur help !!
THANK YOU!!

MS KHOR, we get a SILVER for YOU!! THANK YOU really much!!
WE LOVE YOU !!

Love,
MeiTing
WE GOT SILVER!!
YES WE RELLY DO! CONGRATS TO US!
WE'RE IN HISTORY!

i appreciate all the hardwork people!
I LOVE YOU ALL!
tooddles,
shahir

it's the process that counts... :)

An excerpt from ms ang's daily journal:

It does not matter if the Choir does not win a silver tis year. (of course, the students will be disappointed and the morale will prob drop... ) But seriously, for a 1-yr-old choir, i really really think these kids have achieved a lot!! :)

In my heart, they have already got a GOLD... :)
Yes, even before we compete, the achievement has been set. We have come so far... to share a common spirit and goal, to hold on to a common dream, to bear the name 'YI CHOIR', to be part of something that will stay in our memories forever...

What's can be more valuable than all these camaraderie we have forged..?

This unspoken bond + unforgettable experience = priceless. :)

Amazing!

OMG! Despite the crowd and noise, we did it!! It's just so amazing...that people actually heard us sing!

Yesh, YI Choir, it just shows something! We CAN DO IT! :)

I can still remember vividly how we did for 2008 AAC...similar choir size, same venue, but the voice quality was just not there... but hey! Look what happened today at Foyer. WE WERE AUDIBLE! :) And compliments were received from the crowd!! OMG!
It's indeed a stark improvement you guys had made! *give yourself a big pat on the shoulder!*

We have come a long way... and I believe tomorrow will be a very SPECIAL day for all of us...cos we are going to PROVE to the whole choir scene that we, the YI CHOIR, can make it! :)

ALL THE WAY!!!

Always in your service and love,
~YI Choir Teachers i/c

Facial Expressions

We sure know who have the "cutest" and "i-so-enjoy-singing" look when singing..! *wink*

Sing with your EYES!

Hey, people!

It is apparent that some of you sing "Mairi's Wedding" as though you are attending her funeral!:(

Please bear in mind that STAGE PRESENCE involves both your singing techniques and your FACIAL EXPRESSION!

3 BIG NO-NOs:

  • NO dead-fish look!
  • NO wandering eyes!
  • NO swaying of hands and legs!

Just a week to go before D-DAY, please

Let's git it GOING!

SHOUT-OUTs TO ALL!!!

I realise many of us have been leaving words of encouragement on the tagboard. Cool!
Keep those endearing lines flowing in, peeps! :)

So, i thought, why don't we start the rolls (and ROARS) of encouragement for one another as we march toward D-DAY?

As you leave your note of encouragement, please ensure:
1) you leave your name behind! we would love to know who you are!
2) to whom your msg is for!
3) no spams or personal attack!

Whoohooo! Let's git it goin'!! :P

*i am going to kickstart it!wheee!*
